Predictions of the electric field time correlation functions of light scattered by Brownian particles harmonically bound in a cage are compared with those calculated by a computer simulation of particles diffusing within a cubic cage with hard walls. Similar dynamical behavior, ranging from the purely translational diffusion of the particles in large cages to a relaxational behavior associated with local movement of the particles in small cages, were obtained for both of the models. Some of these predictions are in qualitative agreement with the main results of quasielastic light scattering measurements of the dynamics of probe particles in gel networks.
